The challenge
The customer needed to transform its traditional, centralized data architecture into a scalable, decentralized data mesh architecture. The aim was to improve data processing and self-service analysis through independent, decentralized teams. This transformation should significantly increase the company’s agility and responsiveness in a dynamic market environment.
My solution
As a requirements engineer, I identified the relevant key stakeholders on the basis of a stakeholder matrix and developed a working model with clear timelines.
By analyzing the existing data architecture and recording pain points and requirements, I laid the foundation for the new, decentralized data structure.
As a data analytics expert, I worked closely with the stakeholders to design a TO-BE data architecture as well as ownership models, data products and assets for implementation in the data catalog. I also introduced a change request catalog to implement the concept effectively.
The added value
The following added value is achieved by implementing the conceptualized TO-BE data architecture:
Reduction of manual data provision processes
Improved data quality and quantity through optimized data governance processes
Structuring data into data assets and products
Creation of a data mesh architecture for self-service analyses
Ensuring the timely provision of data for various departments
Significant increase in responsiveness through daily, data-driven decisions
