The challenge
As part of the comprehensive digitalization programme for the City of Munich’s educational institutions, it was crucial to identify the right technology for the central area of data analytics and business intelligence and to plan its introduction.
My solution
The successful introduction of the right BI technology was ensured by the following steps:
- Elicitation of functional, technical and organizational requirements with stakeholders from management, specialist departments and IT
- Creation of a criteria catalog for the evaluation of BI technologies with regard to the requirements
- Definition and conception of a technical use case as the basis for proof of concepts (POCs)
- Implementation of POCs with three technology providers
- Evaluation of the criteria using a decision matrix for technology selection
- Creation of the rough concept for the introduction of the Business Intelligence environment

Through the requirements workshops, toolevaluation and conception, the customer received:
A weighted list of requirements for all relevant professional, technical and organizational aspects
Validation of requirements fulfillment through the implementation of POCs
An insight into the usability and functionality of the 3 BI technologies in the course of the POCs
A well-founded decision matrix for selecting the right technology
A guide to the introduction of the Business Intelligence environment with regard to technical and organizational implementation
